The Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce has recently experienced a few significant transitions — marking both farewells and new beginnings.
Lisa Hughes, who served as our county manager for 15 years, retired June 30 of this year. Throughout her tenure, Hughes made a lasting impact on the county. She played a crucial role in the creation of Lake Hampton and Yadkin Memorial Park, a popular recreational destination for both local residents and visitors. Additionally, Hughes was instrumental in the construction of the new Magnolia Building that houses the new tax office, appraisal, DMV, Mapping and the IT department. Impressively, this new building was built at no cost to Yadkin County taxpayers.
Beyond her county duties, Hughes was an active member and past president of the Yadkin County Rotary Club. The Chamber wishes her a fulfilling and enjoyable retirement.
As we bid farewell to Hughes, we’re excited to welcome Michael Silverman as our new County Manager. A native of Sanford, North Carolina, Silverman holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from UNC Wilmington and a Master of Public Administration from UNC Chapel Hill.
After serving many local governments across the country, Silverman returned to North Carolina to serve as the county manager for Pender County. He’s now eager to work in Yadkin County and explore all that it has to offer. In his spare time, he enjoys being outside hiking, landscaping and serving in the local Rotary Club. We look forward to working with him.
In other news, the Chamber will face a significant change after October. Bobby Todd, who has served as the Executive Director and Economic Developer for more than 32 years, will be retiring. Bobby’s contributions to the development of the Chamber and Economic Development Partnership for Yadkin County have been invaluable. His knowledge and expertise will be missed.
While we will miss Bobby Todd’s leadership, we are thankful for the strong foundation he has built. This foundation positions us to continue growing and thriving. Bobby will continue to assist with special projects for the Chamber and Tourism Development Authority.
As we bid a happy retirement to Lisa Hughes and Bobby Todd, and welcome Michael Silverman as our new County Manager, we remain grateful for the past and optimistic about the future. To our community members and visitors, we invite you to continue discovering all that Yadkin County has to offer and join us in welcoming the next chapter of leadership.

“The last 15 years in Yadkin County, especially the last decade as county manager have been some of the best of my life. The people, the community, the employees and the rural heritage have made it such a joy to be here and to serve the citizens. I have been honored to be a part of this community and look forward to continuing the relationships built.”
